Wedding Gown Fitting in Singapore: 6 Things to Bring Before You Try On a Gown

You’ve booked your wedding gown fitting. You’ve saved a folder of gowns on your phone. But the gowns you try on will only look as good as the conditions you try them in.

At Z Wedding, we’ve seen it many times. A bride arrives in a T-shirt bra and sneakers, tries on a gown she loved online, and it just doesn’t look right. Then she comes back a week later with the right bra and shoes, tries the same gown, and it suddenly works.

So before your appointment at our Tanjong Pagar studio, here are the six things worth bringing. Each one helps you, and your gown consultant, see what your gown will really look like on your wedding day.

01. The Right Bra

Why it matters: The wrong bra can change how the neckline and silhouette look.

Most bridal gowns in Singapore are strapless, off-shoulder or sweetheart cut. A regular bra with straps or thick padding will show through, push the bust up in the wrong places, or stop the bodice from sitting flat.

What to bring:

  • A nude, seamless strapless bra, or

  • Adhesive cups, if that’s what you plan to wear on the day

  • Seamless nude underwear

If the gown has a structured corset bodice, your consultant may suggest trying it without a bra at all. That’s normal. A well-fitted corset gives you the support you need. (Not sure how a corset should fit? Read our guide on corset gown fitting, link to your corset-fit article here.)

02. Your Actual Shoes

Why it matters: Your shoes help you picture different gown silhouettes.

Heel height changes everything. It changes where the hem falls, how the train moves behind you, and how your proportions look in a ball gown compared with a mermaid cut. A gown that drags on the floor when you’re barefoot may be the perfect length in 8cm heels.

What to bring:

  • The shoes you’ll wear on the wedding day, or

  • If you haven’t bought them yet, a pair with a similar heel height

If you plan to change into flats for the evening, mention it too. Your consultant can take it into account.

03. A Hair Tie

Why it matters: Hair up or down can completely change how the neckline looks.

A sweetheart neckline with your hair down looks soft and romantic. The same gown with your hair in a sleek bun shows off your shoulders and collarbones and looks far more elegant. You won’t know which suits you until you try both.

What to bring:

  • A hair tie or a claw clip

  • Bobby pins, if your hair is long or heavy

It only takes a few seconds to put your hair up and see the difference. Your bridal makeup artist will also want to know what you liked when planning your hairstyle for the actual day.

04. One or Two People. Max.

Why it matters: Too many opinions can make you lose sight of what you want.

Your partner is your best audience. If you’d like to bring someone else, such as your mum, your sister or your best friend, keep it to one or two people.

We’ve seen brides walk in sure of what they love and walk out confused because five people each had a different favourite. Keep the group small, and choose people who know your style and whose opinions you trust.

Bringing your partner has a bonus too. They can try on suits from our men’s suit rental collection at the same visit, so the two of you can see how you look together.

05. Photos of Your Venue

Why it matters: The space, colours and overall setting help your consultant understand what kind of gown works best for your day.

A dramatic cathedral-train ball gown looks stunning in a high-ceilinged hotel ballroom. In a cosy restaurant or a garden ROM, it may feel too much, and it’s hard to move around in. An outdoor venue in Singapore’s heat may call for lighter fabric. A venue with warm lighting may suit ivory better than pure white.

What to bring:

  • A few photos of your venue on your phone: the aisle, the stage, the overall colour scheme

  • Your venue’s lighting, if you know it (warm, cool, natural daylight)

With this, your consultant can quickly narrow down our collections. It might be the dramatic silhouettes of the Red Carpet Romance collection, the refined European styles of the Europe Collection, or our own ZW Collection.

06. Your Wedding Plans

Why it matters: When you share your plans, your consultant can help you work out exactly what you need.

Many Singapore weddings involve more than one look. It could be a ROM dress for the solemnisation, a gown for the morning tea ceremony (some couples also prepare a traditional piece with their family), a march-in gown, an evening dress for the second march-in or toasting, and a pre-wedding gown for your photoshoot, whether local or overseas.

What to share:

Your wedding date (and ROM date, if different)

Each part of the day, and roughly what time each part happens

Whether you’re doing a pre-wedding shoot, and where

How many outfit changes you’re thinking of

This is where our one-stop experience makes things easier. Z Wedding works hand-in-hand with our sister brand The Unique Stories for pre-wedding and wedding-day photography, and our team handles bridal makeup for the actual day. Your gowns, makeup and photography can all be planned together under one roof, so you don’t have to coordinate three separate vendors.

Myth vs. Reality: Gown Fitting Edition

Myth: “I’ll just wear any bra. It’s only a fitting.”
Reality: A first fitting is where you decide which silhouettes suit you. The wrong underwear can make a gown look wrong, and it may never make your shortlist.

Myth: “The more people I bring, the better the decision.”
Reality: More people means more conflicting opinions. One or two trusted people, plus your partner, is all you need.

Myth: “I should only try the gowns I saved on Instagram.”
Reality: Saved photos are a great starting point, but bring them as reference, not as a checklist. Many brides end up choosing a gown they never would have picked off a screen once their consultant has seen their venue and plans.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear to a wedding gown fitting in Singapore?
Wear comfortable clothes that are easy to change out of, a nude seamless strapless bra (or the adhesive cups you plan to use on the day), and seamless nude underwear. Bring the shoes you’ll wear on your wedding day, or a pair with a similar heel height.

How many people should I bring to my bridal gown fitting?
Your partner, plus one or two people whose opinion you trust, is ideal. Too many opinions can make it harder to recognise the gown you actually love.

Why should I bring photos of my wedding venue to a gown fitting?
Your venue’s size, colours and lighting affect which gown silhouettes, train lengths and fabrics will work best. Photos help your consultant narrow down suitable gowns quickly.

Can I plan my ROM dress, tea ceremony gown and pre-wedding gown at the same fitting?
Yes. Share your full wedding plans, including ROM, tea ceremony, march-in and pre-wedding shoot, and your Z Wedding consultant will help you work out how many looks you need and shortlist gowns for each.

Do I need to make an appointment for a gown fitting at Z Wedding?
Yes, fittings are by appointment at our studio at 79 Tanjong Pagar Road. WhatsApp us or send a DM on Instagram to check available slots and current package rates.
